I usually think about the intention behind the work. I want handwork to appear hand done, and the machinery to help me with the labor (when possible). Though it seems I always go with my drawknife whenever the chance....
That child's chair is gorgeous! I just built two stick chairs in children size, but it's tough to get the proportions right.
Also I feel what you mean, more then Ofen I reach out for the hand tool despite all the manchinery available.
For me it depends a lot on whether I just want to get things done or actually enjoy the process.
